Employer of Distinction Awards
Are YOU an Employer of Distinction????
The NL Employers’ Council Employer of Distinction Award recognizes employers who place value on their workforce, give back to the community they build and set new standards for excellence in Human Resources.
Each year, the NLEC honours a top employer in both the large and small employer category.

What does it mean?
Becoming an Employer of Distinction means more than building a good place to work. It means becoming an organization that encourages excellence in all areas of progressive employment relationships. The award recognizes leadership, innovation, creativity and a fundamental belief in the value of a healthy, safe and motivated workforce. An Employer of Distinction is, simply put, one who views employees as vital and integral to the organization's success.
Award Criteria:
- Best Practices Approach
- Health, Safety & Disability Management Practices
- Presence in the Community
- Stakeholder Awareness
- Compensation & Advancement
Award eligibility:
To be eligible for the Employer of Distinction Award, organizations must be a member in good standing of the NL Employers' Council at the time of submission of the in-depth questionnaire.
As of 2010, past Employer of Distinction winners are eligible to re-apply for the award five years after the year in which they won. For example, 2005 winners are eligible to apply for the 2010 awards.
Nomination details for the 2012 awards will be posted to this site in late 2012.
Award selection:
If the nominated organization scores at least 80% on the award criteria in the nomination form, it will be short-listed for the award. Short-listed organizations must then complete a more in-depth questionnaire that delves deeper into the five awards criteria. These questionnaires are evaluated by an independent judging panel.
The judging panel for the 2011 award consisted of: Susan Kennedy, Vice President Corporate Services, C-CORE; Travor Brown Ph.D., Director of the Master of Employment Relations program, Memorial University; and Vince Withers, NLEC Founding Chair.
